Coach Michael

Michael is the Head Coach and Owner at CrossFit Midtown in Atlanta, GA since March 2014 & a CrossFit coach since 2009. He is a Certified CrossFit Level 3 Trainer with specialty certificates in Aerobic Capacity, Gymnastics, Weightlifting, USAW Level 1 Weightlifting Coach, and MovNat Level 1 Certified Trainer.

A multisport athlete growing up, Mike was active in swimming, baseball, basketball, soccer, track & field, football; then 4 years of rugby in college. He plays rugby now for Atlanta’s Old White organization, enjoying national success finishing in the top 16 in the county in Rugby 7s (new Olympic version of rugby) in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013 & 2014 as well as top 16 in Rugby 15s in 2009 and 2013.

Advice to new CrossFitters: Be patient with your progress – building strength, developing technique with each movement, and increasing your endurance takes time. Have a positive attitude and give your best every day at the gym. Don’t avoid WODs because you don’t like them. Most of the time that is exactly what you need.

Coach Mohammed

I become a CrossFit Coach because of my passion for training and my willingness to help others with their fitness journey. I started CrossFit in 2017 and went through the CFM Instructor Training Programming in the Fall of 2018 after completing my CF-L1. I’m an aerospace engineer and a full-time researcher during the day and have live on four different continents, but I can call CFM my home away from home (Egypt). I enjoy Soccer, watching netflix and grilling out. Barbeque and steak and anything coming of the grill and I’m for it. At CFM I love coaching and just the feeling of being a positive influence (even if just a tiny bit) on so many people coming from very different backgrounds. It’s so rewarding to see the progress of our athletes and to feel you’ve played a tiny role in them becoming fitter and healthier. Our athletes inspire me!

Coach Pat

I have been doing CrossFit since 2015 and received my L1 certification in February of 2018. Growing up I basically played every sport available to me however narrowed that down to basketball when playing in high school. CrossFit has made a huge positive impact in my life and I love being able to help share that and facilitate that for others. In all of my endeavors my goal is to always help others to become their highest selves and to reach their greatest potential and goals. What better way to do that than through coaching CrossFit. I am a Realtor for my professional day job and I help people to buy and sell property here in Atlanta. In my free time I’m all about checking out new restaurants in town, Steelers Football, and reading.

Favorite CrossFit movement: I love pullups, muscle ups, and rowing.
Favorite CrossFit benchmark: My favorite WOD is Helen
Favorite movement to coach: I enjoy coaching rowing technique because I enjoy rowing myself but also because I think it becomes an after thought for many (like running) and there is so much to be gained from making minor adjustments.
Favorite CrossFit Midtown memory: Completing my first open/first Friday night lights at the gym and being able to see the progress year over year. All of the amazing friends I have made over the years through CrossFit.

Advice to new CrossFitters: It’s ok to feel nervous or uneasy about jumping into CrossFit class but commit to showing up a certain amount of days per week ahead of time (3 or more) and come no matter what. One day at a time you will get better, no matter what. Take care of doing the work and the work will take care of you. Also, jump into the community as soon as possible and attend social events. Half of the magic is in being a part of the community and creating relationships with others as excited and dedicated to improving their fitness as you are.

I have been at CrossFit Midtown since 2016 and became a CrossFit Coach in 2018! Before CrossFit I played High School Football and participated in Collegiate Combatives. My “Day job” is a Research Engineer with Georgia Tech. In my spare time I enjoy playing video games and working on my house. I love coaching and seeing the “lightbulb” moment someone gets the first time they correctly perform a barbell movement. That’s a great feeling as a coach seeing other people succeed!

Favorite CrossFit movement: Weightlifting. Moving heavy weight on cleans, jerks, and snatches.

Coach Jeannette

I started coaching in April 2018 and have been doing CrossFit since 2016. Mostly my athletic background is in team sports and I also did competitive freestyle cycling when I was younger. By day I work doing Business Intelligence at a corporation here in Atlanta. In my free time I play kickball and love doing karaoke. CrossFit has changed my life and a big thank you goes to the coaches who helped me get to this point. I want to be this person for others who seek help to become better, healthier versions of themselves.

Favorite CrossFit benchmark: Fight Gone Bad: Last time we did this one I missed the 300 mark by 2 reps
Favorite movement to coach: I enjoy coaching overhead squats, maybe because I’m terrible at them myself and it is easy for me to identify and relate to the difficulties athletes are having
Favorite CrossFit Midtown memory: 31 Heroes, Theme WODs (Marvel galaxy WOD, Harry Potter WOD, etc.), and the annual Halloween parties

Coach Cameron

Before CrossFit I was a competitive swimmer for 8 years up through high school. Heavy in the 50 and 100 yd Freestyle and 100 Butterfly. Did some club swimming in College but have since hung my goggles up. I current work as a Senior Analyst in Data Architecture for Spark Foundry. AKA I am the person who takes your credit card data and serves you all the Facebook/IG ads you never want to see. In my spare time I enjoy playing an unhealthy amount of video games, and some kickball and beach trips! I became a coach because I really enjoy pushing people and helping them reach a level they didn’t think they could. I’ve been doing CrossFit since 2018 and started coaching at CFM in August 2020. As a Coach I love to bring the energy to CFM and the athletes in my classes. I would like to see myself as a role model and helping those starting out with CrossFit with their fitness journey. Also, Bri said I was the funniest person she has ever met. (No need to ask her, that is definitely a true statement).

Favorite CrossFit movement: Bar Muscle Up. When I started CrossFit I could barely do a single pull-up. It is one of those movements where it is easy to set a goal, hit it, set another goal and look back at where you started.
Favorite CrossFit benchmark: 500m Row
Favorite movement to coach: Rowing workouts. I like encouraging people to hit different pace goals in a workout and make them dig deep for longer sets.
Favorite CrossFit Midtown memory: Friday Night Light Open events with the great energy and support from each other! Murph workouts in the park, and getting my first Bar Muscle Up.

Coach Hailey

My intro session at CFM was December 18, 2017 with Coach Michael and I’ve been a member since! I played volleyball for eight years, and soccer from the age of four through college. When I started CrossFit I had been a few years removed from working out regularly but every time I walked in the door at CrossFit Midtown I felt accepted, cared for, and pushed far beyond all of my self-imposed limits. I couldn’t shut up about my love for CFM and CrossFit so I decided to channel that energy into a more productive outlet as a coach. I got my L1 in November of 2020, and have been coaching classes each week after completing the CFM Instructor Training Program. Professionally I am a full time accountant. In my spare time I enjoy doing: Reading, playing soccer, game nights with friends, eating, and live sporting events. Being a part of CFM as a member has been special and completely transformative. It has lit a burning passion within me. I want other people to love and benefit from it in all the countless ways I have. I love to use this passion to show up enthusiastic every day for members.

Advice to new CrossFitters: There is zero shame involved in scaling a workout. As an athlete, we’re not expected to show up every day and RX the workout. We’re only expected to give the best we have at that point in time on that particular day. Have a bad day? Come work it out and scale if you’re not feeling one hundred percent. Have a good day? Come make it even better.
